Dick chasing in the "Ancient Egyptian" 30th May 1953
Elmer Richard (Dick) Protheroe DFC, born 13-10-1922, died at the age of 43 on 28-04-1966 while practicing in a Ferrari for a motor race at Oulton Park. Having returned from RAF service in Egypt and sometime after his first marriage failed, he married Rosemary Massey (of the tractor company) whom he met while motor racing. After leaving the Royal Air Force he settled in Husbands Bosworth where he formed County Motors as an Austin dealer. Jaguar racing history features his name frequently.
